An initiative by the City of Pienza, Opera Pienza has created for itself the ambitious goal of becoming a "launch pad for the promotion of young opera singers", and benefits from the invaluable support of Signora Adua Veroni Pavarotti. In 1996, the City of Pienza was made a World Heritage Site by UNESCO where, in order to be included, it had to present exceptional value to the world and meet at least one of the 10 selection criteria. UNESCO noted three particular criteria in relation to Pienza: it represents a masterpiece of human creative genius, embodying an important combination of human values based on its architectural development, technology, monumental arts, planning and design of the natural landscape, and finally for setting a benchmark in the illustration of one or more phases of human history.
Opera Pienza, with a focus on promoting young operatic talent, also organizes the Academy of Opera Pienza, a program for the study of vocal and scenic arts, with the aim of preparing young singers for a professional career with vocal, artistic and musical training.
“Accademia Opera Pienza" is the summer event that will feature some of the winners of the 10th edition of the Competition and previous editions that will be engaged in staging the opera "L'Elisir d'Amore" by Gaetano Donizzetti which will be held in Piazza Pio II in the days July 31 and August 1, 2020.
The project of the Municipality of Pienza also looks at the social dimension and health issues. Since its establishment, in fact, Opera Pienza has been strongly involved in the melanoma prevention campaign. For this reason, it has activated collaborations with the "Amici x la pelle Association" which is based within the National Cancer Institute of Milan (Dr. Mario Santinami), with the Cesena Hospital (Dr. Donato Calista) and , in our territory, with dr. Stefano Menchetti (Montepulciano Stazione- Si). We believe that the visibility of our project obliges us morally and conscientiously to promote correct information in the widest possible range of recipients.
